TOP 2 Tuesday-Deserted Island

The TOP 2 Tuesday over at "The Undomestic Momma" is great this week so, I definitely wanted to share what I would take on a deserted island with me (not people).

1. I would bring the book "Eat Pray Love" by Elizabeth Gilbert. I think that this book is awesome, and it would not only be entertaining but also motivational!! Ohhh...bringing a Nook would be even better!!

2. My IPOD...music would definitely make my days pass faster!! And movies too!!

I just want to say that it is hard to not list people in this because of course my loved ones are the first people that I thought of when I read this topic for TOP 2 Tuesday!

Office/Guest Bedroom Redesign

We are lucky enough to have a second bedroom even though we live right outside NYC in Brooklyn. The issue is that we need this bedroom to act as a guest bedroom and an office. My husband works in the design field so he works CRAZY hours at the office so, I wanted to give him a place to work at home if he has to work on the weekends! We already have a few of the items which we will be reusing in the redesign in order to make it more affordable.

Here is a picture of the room now:

So, as you can see from the pictures, the queen sized bed takes up most of the room. For the redesign I would like to get a bed that does not take up as much room, but can fit more than one person and is comfortable! I also want to keep the design of the room modern, but I also want the elements in the room to be versatile enough to be reused in a nursery when we have babies!! When this time come, hopefully we can do a redesign of the living room to accomidate the office leaving this room as a guest room/nursery!! I am trying to think ahead so I can not only sell this redesign to the hubs, but also make the transitions affordable!

Here is my proposed redesign:

The bed that I selected is from Ikea. I have seen it in the stores and it seems very functional. The area with the drawers pulls out to make the bed into a king, and the drawers are also functional in both positions (it is hard to explain, but the pictures on the site show it). This would give us more floor space for when guest are not in town. I would just have white bedding for the bed linens, and I have a pillow top cushion that would make it more comfortable when used as a bed. We already have the drafting desk which is also from Ikea. The chair that I have chosen for the desk is from Pier One. I chose it mostly because I think that it would look really great in a nursery while also functioning as our comfy, desk chair right now! The curtains are from Urban Outfitters. The design is then pulled together with some blue, gray, and yellow throw pillows and a gray shag rug.

I would love to hear your opinions/suggestions!! I hope the hubby likes my idea!

Top 2 Tuesday-Guilty Pleasures

I am just getting into this blogging thing, and I definitely wanted to share my guilty pleasures with you!

1. Reality TV.... We don't have DVR (crazy...I know) so it is hard for me to get to watch everything that I want to, but there are just some shows that I put my foot down and kick my husband off of the TV for. To name a few The real Housewives of NYC, Bethenny Getting Married (I am already hooked after just 1 episode), The Bachelorette, and (I hate to admit this one) 16 and Pregnant!!

2. Bargain Shopping. I just returned from one of my trips like this (you can read about it below). I was able to score some great deals at Daffy's....one of the great things about living in this area is that you can grab designer duds for great prices if you are willing to hunt for them!! The TJ Maxx here always has awesome stuff too!!

Today was just one of THOSE days!!

Today was one of those days that made me hate living here....everything is such a hassle. Let me give you a run through of how it went.

I woke up at 9:30 (I know, I really need to get on that job search) and decided that I would go to Target for some miscellaneous things. Well normally I could just jump in my car and drive to Target and be back home in 1-2 hours max, but that is not how things work when you live in the city.

First, I had to walk down 5 flights of stairs (we live on the 5th floor of a walk-up brownstone) and then walk 7 blocks to the subway just to got a few stops to the Target. Once I get to Target I am already exhausted and by now forgotten what I even went for. I wander around the store for an hour and wind up just spending money that I shouldn't have (ooops). There is a store called Daffy's right by Target. I had never seen this store before moving here, but it is awesome!!! They have great designer fashions at GREAT prices...I probably shouldn't have went in but next thing you knew I had spent $150 dollars...but I definitely got a lot for my money. After Daffy's came the venture home!! I make my way back to the subway and have to wait 45 minutes for the subway to come while waiting in the heat with no fresh air circulating. The subway finally comes and then I make the 7 block walk home and up 5 flights of stairs juggling all of my purchases from Daffy's and Target. And of course just as I get upstairs at 1:00 pm I realize that I didn't get the one thing that I really needed, Father's Day cards for our dads...ugh!!

I guess I am done my rant about my oh so difficult life in Brooklyn (yes, I am being sarcastic because I know that it isn't that bad)....the moral of my story is do not take your car for granted!! I would give anything to jump in my car that is parked directly outside of my house and run my errands!!

I hope everyone else's day is going better than mine.

My First Blog Post

I finally decided to enter the world of blogging. So far it feels strange, like I am talking to myself, but I am going to try to hang in there because I think that this will definitely be something fun to look at in the future.

Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I am a twenty-something housewife who loves to cook, bake, and shop. My husband and I met in high school when we were 16 and got married at 23....yes, after 7 1/2 years of dating we finally took the plunge!! Since being married we have lived in 3 different cities in 3 different states. I know moving 3 times in a year and a half....we must be crazy. We both went to LSU for college so our married life started out in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The economy put a damper on my husband's job search, but we felt very lucky when he got a job offer so we packed up and moved to Austin, Texas. After 8 months there the economy took an even deeper plunge and his hours were cut back in Austin, an amazing job presented itself at just the right time so we again packed up and moved halfway across the country to New York City...Brooklyn to be exact!!

We are still getting used to life here, and it definitely has its good and bad side (LOTS of shopping but no car and no laundry). All that matters right now is that we are together and happy.

I can't wait to share more about everything from Fashion and food to laundry and dishes!

To anyone out there....thanks for reading!
